Understanding availability
The whole point of BizzyDay is that you can see who’s actually free before you call. This page explains how to read a tradesperson’s availability so there are no surprises.
The colour code
Section titled “The colour code”As a customer, availability is kept deliberately simple — there are just two states:
- Free — the tradesperson is available.
- Busy — they’re not available (already booked, on holiday, or a day they don’t work — it all shows the same way to you: unavailable).
That’s it. You don’t need to worry about why a day is busy — only whether they can do your job. (Tradespeople see a more detailed colour-coded calendar on their own screen, but you just see free or busy.)
The availability pill
Section titled “The availability pill”At the top of each result you’ll see a status pill giving the headline at a glance:
- Available — free to take work now.
- Busy (until a date) — booked up until the date shown, then free again.
- Currently unavailable — the tradesperson has paused taking new work for the moment.
AM/PM half-day precision — the week circles
Section titled “AM/PM half-day precision — the week circles”Availability isn’t just “free or not for the whole day.” Each result shows the next 7 days as a row of circles (see the card above), and each circle is split in two: the left half is the morning (AM) and the right half is the afternoon (PM).

So a single circle tells you the whole day at a glance:
- All white — free all day.
- All red — busy all day.
- Half red, half white — free for only the morning or the afternoon (like Wednesday and Saturday above).
That half-day precision is handy when you only need a short job doing and can be flexible about timing — a half-free day might be all you need. When you search with dates, BizzyDay uses this detail to show who can genuinely fit you in.
Why this is more reliable than calling around
Section titled “Why this is more reliable than calling around”A tradesperson’s calendar is theirs to keep up to date, and most keep it current because it’s how they win work. That means what you see is far closer to reality than guessing from a voicemail. That said:
- Availability can change — someone may take a booking between you looking and calling.
- Always confirm the specific dates and details directly with the tradesperson when you make contact.
Think of the calendar as a reliable shortlist tool: it stops you wasting time on people who clearly can’t help, so you only ring the ones who can.
Availability and distance together
Section titled “Availability and distance together”When you search with a postcode and dates, BizzyDay combines both — showing you tradespeople who are both near you and free when you need them, closest first. That combination is what saves you the hours of phoning around.
